The Incas had a very simple yet complicated life. They often lived in ayllu's, a group of related families living together in a small tribe-like family. Each ayllu had its own land for farming and for building homes. The lower class didn't own their lands, they were loaned by the government for them to farm and to build their homes. Everything belonged to the emperor unless he assigned for a noble to rule a certain land. People in their ayllu cooperated well with the communal land in order to make goods for the empire. Each person in the ayllu had responsibilities, and everybody had to work. The only people accepted not to work were the elder and the youth. Nobles, such as curaca Incas, had almost the same life as the commoners, but were expected to work as leaders for different parts of the empire. As for commoners, they usually worked to keep a stable food supply for the empire.
